Beaches

Jomtien Beach Jomtien Beach

Located about 2 km from South Pattaya, Jomtien with its long straight coastline and white sand has become increasingly popular with watersport enthusiasts, mostly because it is quieter than Pattaya Beach and because there are less commercial boats and fishing trailers anchored here.

Typical activities to enjoy are swimming, windsurfing (one of Thailand's favorite spots!),
parasailing, banana boats, speedboating, jet ski and water ski. Many fine hotels and resorts have mushroomed in the area over the past few years, together with shops and restaurants. Beach chairs and umbrellas can also be hired, and vendors roam the beach with drinks, food and snacks. Lining the road on the opposite side of the beach area are many shops and good Thai and seafood restaurants.

Pattaya Beach
Pattaya Beach
Facing Pattaya Bay, this 4 km crescent-shaped stretch is the most happening part of Pattaya, lined with hotels, shopping malls, bars, restaurants and discotheques on the other side of the popular promenade and Pattaya Beach Road. The northern part is more sedate, while the central and southern parts are more lively, day or night - especially the southern part, which is Pattaya's most popular nightlife area.

Over the past few years this area has undergone a major clean-up, and even the ocean water here is the clearest it's been in years. From here boats take visitors to offshore islands or on fishing excursions, and a host of watersport activities are offered. The best way to enjoy this beach is to get comfortable in a beach chair under the shade of an umbrella (all for hire), and wait for the food vendors to come around with freshly steamed shrimp or crispy, deep-fried crabs. Or, even better, spoil yourself with a traditional Thai massage - right there on the beach. Life is sweet...

Wong Prachan Beach

This 1 km stretch of beach on the northern side of Pattaya Bay is a quiet, serene beach that is ideal for swimming and relaxation. There are no shops or vendors, so remember to take a picnic basket along. Although it is somewhat difficult to find - unless you are staying in one of the fine high-rise hotels or condominiums in the area - it's worth the effort for the exclusivity and peacefulness.

Bang Saen Beach

Bang Saen is popular with the local community, but more and more tourists have been starting to flock there over the years. Approximately 13 kilometers from the city of Chonburi (Pattaya's neighnour), the beach can be easily reached when you are driving along Sukhumvit Highway - just look out for the 'kilometers 104' sign. Along the beach there are many vendors offering drinks and seafood snacks like grilled squid, mussels and steamed fish-cakes for sale. Deck chairs and umbrellas can also be hired, and there are fresh water bathing facilities.

Islands

Pattaya's islands might not rival the exotic island destinations in the south of Thailand, but they make for the perfect day-trip to enjoy swimming, fishing and coral viewing. Ferries run daily from the main port, or catch a speedboat from Pattaya Beach.

Krok Island

Koh  Krok  a  small  island  covering  an  area  of 0.05 square kilo -
meters,   approximately   8   kilometers   from   the  shore.  The island comprises  mostly  rocks.  Only  one sandy-beach on the east of the island  is  Koh  Krok beach which is only 100 meters in length. This is an ideal place for coral viewing.

Sak Island

Koh  Sak  some  10  kilometers  west  of  Pattaya strait or 600 meters away from Koh Larn. Koh Sak  is  another  Small  Island  shaped  like a horseshoe with an area of 0.05 square kilometers. It  has  two  beaches,  one  on  the  northern  cover  250 meters in length, and area in which boats usually  stop  for  tourists to swim and another one on the southern part of the island opposite the first  island,  with  a  pathway  linking the two beaches, a small beach 80 meters in length. A coral is found at the area in front of the beach. Skin-diving is also possible in this vicinity.

Phai Group Island

Koh Phai Group of islands is comprised of Koh Phai, Koh Manvichai, Koh leom, Koh Klung Badan etc., Koh Phai being the largest. The islands are presently under the supervision of the Royal Navy. The Koh Phai groups of islands are situated at a distance about 13 kilometers from Pattaya and takes 2 hours to reach by boat. There is a lighthouse on top of a hill at Koh Phai. Visitor's can enjoy relaxing-moments, swimming, fishing and diving down to view the coral.

Larn Island
Larn Island
Koh Larn situated to the West of Pattaya Strait, about 7.7 Kilometers from the shore, covering an area of about 4 square kilometers, popularly known as Coral Island and is 45 minutes by ferry or 20 minutes by speed boat from Pattaya Beach.
There are beautiful beaches, clear water, and an abundance of coral. Visitors can view the coral either from a glass-bottom boat or by diving down directly. A well-known beach is at Ta Waen Beach in the northern part of the Island, a 750 meters stretch of white sand with many stalls andshops. Sightseeing boats mostly dock in this area.

There are also Laemtien Beach and Samae Beach on the south-western side, each beach spanning a length of 700 and 100 meters respectively. Both are regarded as beautiful and interesting sports, especially Laemtien Beach which has remained exceptionally clean and tranquil. There are now a few stores servisitors. Ta Pan Beach on the western part of the island is 500 meters in length with make-shift lodging available.
On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, sightseeing boats usually dock along this beach all the way to Laemtie where there is coral. On the southern part is Nual Beach 450 meters in length. On this beach a hotel which accommodates a large number of tourists. This is another good place for viewing coral.
